My First Race Upcoming

Kaleo’s 5k Run

I’m very excited that I will be running in my first 5k race in two weeks! For the past month I have been running regularly training for my 1/2 marathon in October. I started running with a couple of the women I go to the gym with, one of whom is a marathon runner. Susan encouraged me to sign up for some 5k runs to prep us for our larger races. 5k races are 3.1 miles and up until a month ago I didn’t even know what the distance of a 5k was.

It’s amazing that a non-runner has become a runner. I really enjoy getting out by myself and running with my music and just letting the miles click by. Admittedly I never thought I would be able to run one mile, let alone the 13.2 miles I get to run in October. Each day though I get out and start running. I’m incredibly awkward for the first mile but seem to get into a groove after that and press on.

I am running in the annual Kaleo’s 5k Run on August 5th. It’s a race that is sponsored by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Association and the monies go towards taking care of the wounded and retired police dogs. I love that I’m doing something for me and supporting a good cause at the same time.

I love the example I am setting for my daughter. Being healthy and active is definitely something I want to instill in her and I can’t wait to see her smiling face at the finish line once I cross it! Wish me luck!
