Golden Grahams And The Rescuers

Cousins

Reagan and I are at my sisters for the next couple of days to spend some quality girl time together. It was the first time I was getting to see her new house complete since we helped her move in a couple weeks ago. All the furniture was in and decorations were on the wall. So cute! My baby sister owns her first house! Reagan was doubly excited because she was getting to spend time with her cousin Aiden and aunty “Boo.”

We belong to the Disney Movie Club and the package had come in the mail with our featured title. I figured it could keep Reagan busy on our two hour trip up to Redding. I ripped open the package and was all giddy myself. It was the combination of The Rescuers and the The Rescuers Down Under! Wow! Disney classics. These were the Disney movies my brother and sister and I grew up with. It brought back many memories from childhood listening to the dialogue of the movie.

Sis had some errands to run yesterday evening so I volunteered to watch the two kids at the house. They played for a long time and when they were getting tired they both came running in and wanted to watch a movie. Perfect! I have just the one and I bet my nephew had never seen it before. I think in all honesty I was more excited to see the movie than the kids because I had probably been their age the last time I had seen it. We all cozied up on the couch and settled in to watch our classic flick.

About ten minutes into it the kids wanted a snack. Let’s peruse the cupboards and see what I can find. Golden Grahams! Another childhood classic. Rarely did we have Golden Grahams in the house as kids. They were an ‘expensive’  cereal and we couldn’t afford to spend our money on things that weren’t necessary. I pulled the Golden Grahams out of the cupboard and grabbed a handful. They were so good. Another childhood memory deposited into the memory bank. Every once in a while my mother would sneak home a box without telling dad and us kids would sit around with mom content, eating a forbidden cereal, happy to keep our secret.

Entertaining the kids yesterday turned into entertaining mommy! It was so cool watching a Disney movie from my era and eating forbidden cereal. It’s funny that to this day when I want a treat in cereal I will buy a box of Golden Grahams. It was a nostalgic day for me yesterday. I love those days and can’t wait to continue today with a little bit of classic fun. I think we will start with The Rescuers sequel and have a bowl of Golden Grahams! Yay for me!
