This morning on the way to Reagan’s daycare Reagan informed me that Elmo’s going potty. What? I turned around and looked and she had her Elmo doll crouched over the cup holder on her carseat. It was one of the funniest things I had seen. She was making Elmo go potty, in the cup holder no less. All I could do was smile and laugh and say “Good job Elmo.”
Reagan is in her second month of potty training. As you have read in my recent posts on the subject it has been a roller coaster for me. Some days she is marvelous and won’t have an accident. Other days she forgets completely what it is she is learning and reverts to peeing in her pull ups. Over this past weekend visiting my sister Reagan did amazing! She was telling me she had to go potty, even when we went out to restaurants. I was so ecstatic. My little girl was finally getting it. We get home on Tuesday and she reverts back to peeing in her pull ups! What is going on?
Last night however, Reagan did amazing again! The difference? I’m not sure but I put little panties on her. Cutest things ever really. I told her that big girls don’t go pee in their panties. They run to the bathroom if they feel like they have to go potty. She was excited to put on her big girl panties. She told me they were “pretty.” My mother had purchased this pack of panties for her and they have all the Disney princesses on them.
“Big girls don’t get their princesses wet, right? You go to the bathroom for potty. Big girls get treats when they go to the potty by themselves or if you tell mama you have to go, ok?”
“Ok mommy, no wet. Princesses, no wet.” I was encouraged. Maybe this would do the trick.
She was flawless last night! Told me when she had to go and ran to the bathroom. Lots of praise and treats all around! Yay for Reagan, yay for mommy! I’m excited to work on it this more with her this weekend using the panties. Today, unfortunately, she is in daycare and I know she doesn’t get the attention she needs to continue with proper potty training so the pull ups went on this morning. I do have high hopes though that she will be just as excited when the big girl panties go back on later tonight!
I’ll have to take a cue from Elmo and let her bring him into the bathroom with us if need be and remind her that Elmo’s going potty. If she can get the concept that Elmo has to go potty then I know she can master potty training!
