For some free entertainment for some friends and family we attended Chalk It Up! A music and art festival where local talent got to reserve a square of sidewalk in a local park downtown and showcase their talents. Truly a unique event and a ton of fun! There were artists drawing for a cause, like breast cancer awareness. There were artists supporting local businesses like a coffee house and bookstore. Some artists were proclaiming their love for the United States, California and Sacramento. You name it, it was probably being drawn on some portion of the sidewalk.
One particular artist was showcasing a toddler online bookstore and to draw attention to her piece of walk she had a pile of balloons for the kids. Of course they all went rushing over to claim their free gift! Reagan was no exception. The second she saw the bright green balloon she immediately picked up one and proceeded to start blowing into it to inflate it unfortunately to no avail as her lungs are nowhere near the capacity to blow up a balloon. Hell, I could barely blow the damn thing up!
It was pure genius really. For the next half hour it took us to move through the park and admire the different artists she was walking next to us attempting to blow up her balloon. Brian and I both looked at each other and thought how smart is this? Eventually I blew up the balloon for her and even then it was the perfect toy as she spent the rest of the time chasing her balloon around in circles. Need to side track a toddler? Give them a deflated balloon and watch them spend the next however long attempting to blow it up! Let me tell you it’s awesome!
